Summer Concert Series 2013
Tuesdays @ 6:30-8 pm
Our summer concert series is back in 2013. We are really excited to host five concerts this summer here at the library. Many thanks to the Fairfax Parks and Recreation for funding assistance to make this summer's concerts possible.
Each concert will take place on the lawn outside the Middle School Gym, across from the Town Hall. If it is rainy, we will move inside to the gym.
Bring a picnic basket, lawn chairs, a blanket, and enjoy the music!

July 9: Starline Rhythm Boys
Hailing from Vermont, the Starline Rhythm Boys, evoke the spirited country and juke joint sounds that echoed out of the Tennessee Hills and Texas Honkytonks of the 1940s and 50s. To learn more, visit their website.
July 16: Youth Musician Showcase
This is a special program showcasing local youth talent. *We are still looking for more youth performers. Kids of all ages with a variety of musical interests are encouraged to participate. Please contact Karyn at knorwood@fwsu.org or 849-2420 for more information.*
July 23: Carol Ann Jones
We are excited to welcome back Carol Ann Jones, a singer, songwriter and recording artist from Georgia, Vermont. Carol write songs about her life's experiences. There is something here for everyone! Carol performs rock, country, pop, jazz and blues. To learn more, visit her website.
July 30: Yankee Chank
Yankee Chank is a group of musicians from throughout Vermont who perform traditional dance music from Southwest Louisiana. Members include Fairfaxian Mark Sustic (bass and percussion), Bob Naess (fiddle and vocals), Cannon Labrie (accordion and vocals), Jim Burns (guitar). To learn more, visit their website.
August 6: Fairfax Fletcher Westford Band
The Fairfax, Fletcher, Westford Band aims to provide musical entertainment for the surrounding communities, as well as providing community members with a place to play their instruments in a fun, low-pressure environment. To learn more, please visit their website.

Monday, June 24, 2-4 pm: Young Producers Workshop
A hands-on introduction into the world of television! Children ages 8 and 9 will have fun learning about the equipment used to make television programming, and will complete a short library themed project. The project produced in this workshop will be provided to the children and the library on DVD, as well as run on LCATV and stream from the LCATV website.
Please Note: There will be 3 separate workshops throughout the summer and each one will feature a different activity. Kids can sign up for one or all three workshops.
Length of time: 2 hours
Number of children: Min. 4, Max. 10
Age range: 8 and 9 years old

Tuesday, June 25, 5:30-6:15 pm: Herbal Bug Spray with Debbie
Create all-natural bug spray with Debbie Laudauer, our Town Librarian. It’s fun, quick, and effective—just in time for summer. Free, all are welcome! Preregistration appreciated.
Wednesday, June 26, 4-5 pm: READ to a Dog
Kids can read a book of their choice to a fuzzy, friendly dog. To sign-up for a time slot, call (849-2420) or stop by the library.
Thursday, June 27, 6-7:30 pm: Opening Summer Reading Program: Dig into Reading Puppet Performance and Puppet-making Craft
An audience of all ages is welcomed to attend a puppet performance of The Carrot Seed, The Giant Turnip, Anansi and the Talking Melon, and Over in the Meadow with Hands-ON Puppets. Follow the stories, kids can make their own puppets! Free.

Tuesday, July 2nd, 10-11 am: Painted Rock Tic-Tac-Toe
Make your own rock and stick version of this classic game in an hour of creating with local artist Nicole Vance. For all ages. Preregister. Cost is $5.

Come for a magical exploration of soil: what lives there, why it’s so important and what it’s made of. Listen to the story of the Root Children that live under the soil and then create your own a Waldorf-inspired “root child.” For all ages, free. Preregistration appreciated.

Thursday, July 11th, 6:30-7:30 pm: VHC Living History Presentation: One Family's Civil War Story
Join us at the at the library at 6:30 pm for a powerful reenactment of one family's Civil War story, in this presentation sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council. David Book portrays Abel Morrill, an early settler of Cabot, Vermont, whose family was greatly affected by the war.
Free, for all ages!
Saturday, July 13th, 10 am-12 pm: Wild Edibles Nature Walk
Learn about wild edibles in the Fairfax area with Master Gardener Laurie DiCesare on this walk through the local park across from the library.

Bring a t-shirt, pair of socks, pillowcase, or whatever else you want to make colorful to the library! (New cotton fabrics work best.) We’ll have lots of bright dyes to work with, as well as all the other materials you’ll need to brighten your clothes. For all ages, free.

Tuesday, August 13th, 10-11:30 am: Finale: Magic Show with Tom Joyce
Our final event kicks off with an awesomely earthy magic show with Tom Joyce. Following the show, we’ll be raffling off our prizes, handing out reading certificates, and eating cake! For all ages, free.
Friday, August 9th, 6-8 pm: Film Viewing of Jay Craven's "Northern Borders"
The library will be hosting a film viewing of "Northern Borders," which is based off of Vermont author Howard Frank Moser's Northern Borders novel. A humorous and sometimes startling coming-of-age story, Northern Borders evokes the Northeast Kingdom's wildness, its sublime beauty, a haunted past, and an aura of enchantment. This film is part of a unique and ambitious film initiative, Movies From Marlboro, which teams 10 professionals with 20 college students. Cost is $12 for adults, kids $6, and seniors $10.
