May 2013 Events at the Fairfax Community Library

Happy May, everyone! Here at the library this month, we have our final Memorable Memoirs reading group meeting. We have several copies left of Dave Eggers's A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, so pick up your copy today for our May 9th meeting! On May 11, just in time for Mother's Day, local crafter Annette Hansen will be leading a class on how to needle felt teddy bears. On May 15, we host Lisa Helme from the State Treasurer's Office in a free retirement workshop on how to keep the "gold" in your golden years. On the 16th at 6:30 pm, bring in your digital device to learn all about the free digital services the library has to offer! For our after-school craft this month, kids will learn how to make their own clay (and clay creations!) on May 21st.

News from the Town Librarian:

For those of you who attend our story hour, please note the following changes to our May schedule:
May 14:  Duck and Geese theme
May 21:  No Story Hour
May 28:  Cats and Kittens with Rusty from the Franklin County Humane Society  NOTE TIME CHANGE: 10:00 – 11:00 am.

Cool Apps:
Passbook lets you get rid of those pesky award cards from stores and just put them on your mobile device. Scan the appropriate barcode from your mobile device at each store.
Critter Trax is like a mini guide book to animal tracks you might see while out hiking this summer.

Speaking of summer, check out the library’s collection of travel books if you are planning a trip.  Some examples:

+ Naturally Curious: a Photographic Field Guide and Month-by-month Journey through the Fields, Woods, and Marshes of New England
+Curious New England: the Unconventional Traveler's Guide to Eccentric Destinations
+The Most Beautiful Villages of New England
+Roads: Driving America's Great Highways
