Minutes of the June 20 Board of Library Trustees meeting.

Present were: Debbie, Pat, Liz, Toni, Judy…

There were no public comments

We have found someone who is a potential candidate for appointment as a library trustee. That person’s name would have to be brought to the selectboard for approval.

Debbie has been accepted to the NE Library Leadership Symposium which will be held in Massachusetts at the end of July. She is waiting to hear about scholarships.

Secretary Report ; a motion was made by Judy to accept the secretary’s report for the May 2nd meeting as it stands and it was approved.

Treasurer’s report; Pat reported that there is $385.98 in the checkbook with $148.32 as debit; savings has $6453.40; and the CD has 5937.87.
Karyn purchased 2 $25 gift cards for prizes for the summer program.

A worker from NCSS wants to know if scholarship money would be available for youth in need to participate in the summer camps sponsored by the library and the recreation department.
Judy made a motion that the trustees would provide ½ the cost of the summer camp for 2 Fairfax families for the 2103 camp. Pat seconded the motion and it was approved. The camps, Exordium, are co sponsored by the library and recreation department and are targeted at 6-10 year olds. The hours are 10-2, and there is an art camp and a nature camp.

Old Business
Strategic Planning. No one attended the initial meeting to which people who had responded to the survey were invited. Toni, Debbie, and Judi then called and contacted individuals for another meeting at which about 10 people attended. There will be a meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee on June 27. The meeting will need a facilitator and a secretary. Debbie will prepare an orientation packet. The first meeting will be organizational and brainstorming. It need to be remembered that the most important thing for those answering the survey was that the library be a comfortable and inviting space for patrons.
All trustees will attend the strategic planning meeting and the committee will then decide how many trustees should attend.

Librarian Job Description.
Liz will edit it one more time and Debbie will file a copy and send one to the select board.

After some discussion it was decided that the ‘town librarian’ be called, officially, the Public Library Director.

New Trustees; Eric Torraca and Melissa Fisher are possible candidates. Since Melissa is on the strategic planning committee Pat will speak to her then.

The next library meeting will be held 8/14/2013, a change from the scheduled meeting on the 15.
