July 31, 1924 - February 10, 2014


Milton - Doris Mae Hakey, 89, died peacefully early Monday morning, February 10, 2014 at her home, with her loving family by her side. Doris was born in Colchester on July 31, 1924, the daughter of George and Sarah (Ackerson ) Bean. She was a member of the Mount St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1942, and graduated from Trinity College in 1946. She began her teaching career at Swanton High School where she taught business and accounting. On June 11, 1949, she married Charles Hakey at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Malletts Bay. Doris stayed home to raise their young family. They resided in Malletts Bay until 1965 when they moved to Milton. She began teaching in Milton after her four children entered school. She taught high school and was the 5/6 grades teacher. Later, she obtained her Master's Degree of Library Science and became the school's teaching Librarian until her retirement. It always delighted her to meet her former students whenever she happened to see them. Charlie and Doris loved travelling and just always being together. Doris's family meant everything to her. She and Charlie spent countless hours attending family, sports, and school events. Many happy days were spent taking care of grandkids and great-grandkids. Doris was the most giving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband Charles of Milton, to whom she was married for 64 years , her children and their spouses, Mark and Louise Hakey of Fairfax, Christine and William Gorman of Milton, Joyce Hakey and Norm Stinehour of Fairfax, her daughter-in-law Johanne Hakey of Estero, FL, her grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Hakey, Holly and Earl Magoon, Maureen Hakey, Patrick Hakey, Kevin and Heather Gorman, Scott Gorman, Jeremy and Genevieve Hunnewell, and Elizabeth Hakey, great-grandchildren Brett, Thomas, Jake, Meghan, Riley, Taylor, Colin, and Emma; her sisters-in-law Winifred Bean and Bernice Hakey, brother in-law Harvey Amilhat, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Paul in 2003 and her brothers Maurice, Roy, Richard, Clement and Clifford, and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Visiting hours will be Thursday, February 13 from 4-7pm in the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 14, at 11:30 am in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Malletts Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris's name may be made to the Edmundite Missions, 1428 Broad St., Selma, Alabama 36701.
