Born: June 05, 1932
 Died: July 10, 2014

U.S. Veteran Ronald C. Murphy, age 82, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, after a lengthy illness. He was born in St. Albans, June 5, 1932, son of the late James A. and Alfreda (Chase) Murphy. Ron attended BFA and graduated with the class of 1950. He served for a brief time in the U.S. Army. He transferred to the U.S. Navy, serving in Korea, to return in 1953. He married Janice Brenda Church on June 25, 1955. He worked for J.C. Penney, and was transferred to a branch in Long Island, NY. They were unhappy in Long Island, and returned to Vermont in 1960. Ron joined the Vermont Air National Guard as a First Sergeant of the Logistics and Resource Squadron, retiring in 1992 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He also concurrently worked as a computer Programmer at IBM in Essex retiring in 1990. Upon retirement, Ron worked at the Border Crossing in Highgate and Alburgh as an Immigration Inspector, retiring in 1999.

Ronald published 2 books pertaining to the Genealogy of the family and Irish Famine Immigrants in the State of Vermont Gravestone Inscriptions. He was a race car driver at Catamount Race Track in the 1970’s, and coached hockey with the St. Albans Skating Association, Youth Divisions. He started a juvenile league for players who didn’t make the high school team.

Ronald is survived by his son Sean Murphy of St. Albans, his daughters, Karen Murphy of Kent, CT, and Meegan Delphia and her husband Michael of Williston, a daughter-in-law Barbara Smith Murphy of Fairfax, grandchildren Christopher and Susan Murphy, Kathryn Murphy-DeTura and her husband Matt, Padraic, Sean, Liam and Eamon Murphy-Suanders, Conor and Nikolas Delphia, a great-grandson Joshua Murphy. Ronald also leaves his brothers James Murphy and his wife Joan of St. Albans, Larry Murphy and his wife Christy and step-mother Lillian Murphy, all of Albuquerque, NM. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Janice, and a son Michael Murphy.

The family wishes to thank the Visiting Nurses for their care and Dr. Peter Gunther, for being more than a doctor to Ronald and his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Church with Father Lance Harlow celebrating. Interment will follow in the Murphy family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans from 7 to 9 P.M. Friday. In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to the Williston Adult Day Program, C/O Visiting Nurse Association, 11110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
