BERNICE EVANS BALLARD -  White River Jct., VT – Bernice Evans Ballard, 87, died Tuesday March 10, 2015 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct.

She was born a daughter of Perley and Flossie (Corse) Evans, August 16, 1927 in Fletcher, VT. Bernice graduated with the Class of 1944, from Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, VT. She then worked at New England Telephone & Telegraph in Burlington as a repair clerk for a short time until she was married. She was married to Newell W. Ballard on September 23, 1945 in Johnson, VT and soon after they moved to White River Junction, where they made their home for the rest of their lives. After her children were grown, Bernice began work as an office clerk at Blodgett Supply in White River Jct., VT, retiring in 1989.

Bernice enjoyed crafting especially crocheting. She was a member of the Quechee Community Church, the former University Grange and more recently the Upper Valley Grange, both in Norwich as well as volunteering at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the White River Junction Information Center and with RSVP.

She was predeceased by her husband, Newell in 1983; two sisters, Inez Barkyoumb and Lucille Wimble and two infant brothers.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Ballard of Hartland, VT and Dale Ballard of Claremont, NH; four daughters Nina Hickson of Claremont, NH, Hope Spencer of Essex Jct., VT, Dawn Spencer of Hartland, VT and Susan Johnson of Farmington, NH; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Saturday March 28th from 1-3PM with a service following at the funeral home at 3PM. Burial will be in the Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher, VT on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 3PM

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hartford Fire & Rescue, 812 VA Cutoff Rd, White River Junction, VT 05001 or the Quechee Community Church, 1905 Quechee Main Street, Quechee, VT 05059.
