Marian D. Chaffee
(July 25, 1923 - August 21, 2007)
Fairfax - Marian D. Chaffee, 84, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 21, 2007, at FAHC in Burlington. She was born in St. Albans July 25, 1923, the daughter of the late Robert F. and Emma P. (Willett) Domey. On January 25, 1943 she married Austin W. Chaffee in St. Albans. Austin died in July of 1968.
Marian was Town Clerk and Treasurer for the town of Fairfax retiring in 1988. She was a 1941 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. She had been a professional seamstress and later enjoyed making doll clothing which was sold at church events. She was a member of the United Church of Fairfax where she sang in the choir, a member and Past Matron of Fairfax Unity Chapter 17, OES, the Fairfax Cemetery Association, and Fairfax Historical Society. She also volunteered at Redstone Villa Nursing Home as well as doing income tax for the elderly. As one who liked to keep busy, she enjoyed crocheting and tatting, knitting, birdwatching, flowers, collecting post cards and gathering family genealogy. Until the last few years, she enjoyed snowmobiling and tennis.
Marian is survived by her daughter, Becky and her husband Pete Malchiodi of Winsted Connecticut, two sisters; Willetta “Billie” Moffatt of Berlin, VT and Dorothy “Jane” Brigham of St. Albans, two grandchildren, Alan P. Coupal and his partner, Shila Boomhower of East Fairfield and Ann-Marie Eaton and her husband, Robert of South Burlington, and three great grandchildren, Duncan and Jeremiah Eaton and Ciara Coupal. She is also survived by three step granddaughters and their families. She also leaves many dear friends and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Austin, and three siblings, Priscilla “Pinky” Pelton, Martha Collins and Philip Domey.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Pastor Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Sanderson’s Corner Cemetery.
