Carlene E. (Bevins) Sweet Fairfax/Jeffersonville/St. Albans - Carlene E. (Bevins) Sweet, 88, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Holiday House Residential Care Facility in St. Albans, with her loving daughter by her side. She was born on March 28, 1928 in Fairfax, the daughter of the late Ira L. & Eliza (Reynolds) Bevins, Sr.
On November 18, 1950, she married Robert Sweet in the United Church of Fairfax. Carlene and Bob lived in Burlington, Colchester, as well as, Seymour, CT until they finally moved back to Fairfax where they made their home for 44 years. In 2006, they moved into the Mann's Meadow Senior Housing Complex in Jeffersonville. Failing health sent Carlene to live at the Holiday House in St. Albans in August of this year where she happily lived out her remaining days.
Carlene was always a hard worker and held various jobs. She did factory work, housecleaning, cafeteria work, and in later years Carlene and Bob opened their home and their hearts to care for three children.
Carlene loved to pass the time doing puzzles and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. One of her favorite things was talking about her family and spending time with them. She always had pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the ready to show people who would visit her.
She is survived by her son Dennis Sweet and his wife Mary of Colorado, her daughter Lorri Tucker and her husband Richard of Fairfax, her brother Lloyd Bevins and wife Gyneth of St. Albans, and her sister-in-law Jean Menard of Burlington. Five grandchildren Brian Sweet and wife Kristin, Eric Sweet and wife Haley, Karen Lakey and husband Ryan, Joseph Tucker, and Sarah Tucker. Three great grandchildren Aiden and Jordan Sweet and Ashlyn Lakey. She is also survived by Brenden Blair of Fletcher who was a special part of her life for five years.
Carlene was also predeceased by her husband in 2013. Three brothers Rollo Bevins, Bernard Bevins, and Ira L. Bevins, Jr., as well as her four sisters, Ruth O’Boyle, Alice Patterson, Glenna Smith and Earlene Burns.
The family would like to thank the Holiday House staff, Bayada Hospice, and Dr. John Dunn for the wonderful care Carlene received. Their professionalism, love, and compassion will never be forgotten.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday December 12, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Fairfax. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
