Constance "Connie" Killary Hunziker

Constance "Connie" Killary Hunziker, 93, formerly of Shelburne and Fairfax, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, VT.Connie was born June 4, 1923 in Burlington, VT, the eldest daughter of Howard and Gladys (Emery) Killary.After graduation from Burlington High School in 1941 she went to the Hartford (CT) School of Nursing from 1941 - 1944. Upon receiving her nursing degree she entered the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Following an honorable discharge she went to UVM, receiving her Bachelor's degree in 1949.On September 6, 1947 she married Robert J. Hunziker in Burlington, VT. They had two children while Bob was in medical school, moving in 1956 to Cambridge, NY, then in 1963 to Shelburne, VT where they made their home on Lake Champlain for 35 years.Connie is survived by her son, Mark (Judi) of Fairfax, VT; daughter Ann Nesmith (Peter Robinson) of Poultney, VT; four grandchildren, Johanna Hunziker of San Antonio, TX, Teague Hunziker (Sara) of Burbank, CA, Jen Thomas of Dorset, VT, Ben Nesmith of Littleton, CO; step-grandchildren Sean Harrington of Fairfax, VT, Chad Harrington of Winooski, VT; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Janet Bennett of Springfield, VT, Elizabeth Fowler of Kansas City, MO, and Margaret Cotanch of South Burlington, VT; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1999 by her husband, Robert J. Hunziker, MD, and brothers-in-law Al Bennett and Dick Fowler.Burial and a gathering of family and friends will be in the spring.  Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Fairfax, P.O.
