Gilles Wilfred Rainville Obituary
Georgia – Gilles Wilfred Rainville, a well-known dairy farmer and cattle dealer, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home. He was 85 years old. Born in Bedford, Quebec on June 24, 1939, he was one of fifteen born to Joseph O. and Cecilia (Bernard) Rainville.



On July 29, 1967, in Holy Angels Church, Gilles married Claudette Gagner, who survives him.



Gilles was very active in community affairs over the years, serving on the Georgia Selectboard, Road Commissioner, School Board, Board of Civil Authority and Georgia Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long-time member and 4th Degree Knight of Council 10830, Fairfax, St. Albans Lodge 1566, B.P.O.E., a founding member of the Georgia Lions Club and a former member of the St. Albans Lodge 1090, L.O.O.M.



In addition to his wife of 57 years, Claudette of Georgia, survivors include their two sons, Gilles J. Rainville and his wife, Elke, of Georgia, and Peter Rainville of Fairfax, as well as his grandchildren: Kirsten, Justin, Emma, Claire, Sarah, Marie, Hannah, and Ashley; and a great-granddaughter, Claudia.



Gilles is also survived by his sister, Theresa Paquette of Jericho; his brother, Jean Guy Rainville and his wife, Fernande, of Fairfax; sisters-in-law, Lillian Rainville and Sophia Rainville; as well as his in-laws, Ronald Gagner, Lise and Dan Bovat, and Arlene and Gary Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.



In addition to his parents, Gilles is predeceased by his seven brothers: Harvey, Gaston, Laurent, Robert, Bernard, Jean Louis, and Paul; and five sisters: Madeline, Marie Paule, Noella, Fernande, and Imelda.



Gilles’ family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 25th at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Parish, Holy Angels Church, 245 Lake Street St. Albans. Prayers of committal and interment will be in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax.



Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider planting a tree in Gilles’ memory or making a donation to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1436, Williston, Vermont 05495.
