Hi All,

Well, as far as I am concerned, there are only two kinds of pie at Thanksgiving, Apple & Pumpkin, however when I was growing up there was a third pie that my Mother always made and that was Mincemeat Pie.  Now, I never cared for it because it had raisins in it.  My younger sister still makes Mincemeat Pie to this day, but it is different than what my mother made, because she gets a Mincemeat Pie Mix and to the best of my knowledge, it has no meat in it.

When we butchered a beef, one particular part of the beef was used specifically for Mincemeat and that was the neck.  She did make another kind of Mincemeat, which is probably similar to what my sister makes and that was called Green Tomato Mincemeat.  Both pies actually smell very good when they are cooking because of the spices in them, and I know those that ate it as does my wife always warms it before eating it.  Whenever my sister makes a Mincemeat Pie, she always brings a piece down to my wife.

There is a lady up in Hardwick who is called The Pie Lady.  She was on a Channel 3 News Made In Vermont Segment last night.  Apparently she converted a two car garage into a bakery and makes all kinds of delicacies.  By the way, the cost of the Mincemeat Pies she makes???  $16

You might find it interesting to watch the video which they now have of the segment on The Channel 3 News Web Site - There is a very long link for you to click on if you decide you want to watch it:

Mom made green tomato mincemeat. She would make a pie, which Dad really liked, and mincemeat cookies, which I liked. The pie was one of Dad's favorites(along with an apricot pie). I didn't have any pie, but the cookies were DEEEE-LICIOUS!!!
Margie said we always had three pies for Thanksgiving-apple, pumpkin, and mincemeat.
