Winter storm warning in effect; severe conditions expected

SOUTH BURLINGTON -- Snow and significant ice accumulations are expected to create dangerous traveling conditions today and into tonight as part of a winter storm that is headed this way.

The National Weather Service in South Burlington has issued a winter storm warning that will go into effect from 9 a.m. today to 5 a.m. Saturday. Snow will develop across central and northern Vermont late this morning into this afternoon.

The snow will rapidly change to a mix of sleet and freezing rain from south to north this afternoon, resulting in widespread icy conditions and treacherous travel conditions this afternoon and tonight. The precipitation will taper off to snow showers late tonight.

Total snow and sleet accumulations will range from 2 to 5 inches. Ice accumulations of a 1/4 to 1/2 inch is expected by midnight. Trees and wires could be brought down by the weight of the ice, and driving will be especially dangerous on untreated roads.

Have no fear I am sure Donald and the boys will have our roads in the best shape possible. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and skilled crew working for use.

No doubt.  Without the road crew and all their efforts we as a fire department would not be able to get to half of the places we need to for emergency calls.

They are the best.  Is it true that the town will not provide health care for their families after this year?  If it is true, we will probably lose them...I hope it's not!
