What a way to start a day.  Maryann turned on her computer and received a corrupted file notice on the screen.  She shut it down and tried again several times.  It was not an expensive computer, but did have quite a bit of information on it that she hadn't backed up yet.  We checked the flyers from Sunday's Free Press and found a computer for $499 at Circuit City. For what she uses it for, my daughter said that would be adequate.

So it was off to Taft's Corners and Circuit City.  After quite a wait at the counter to talk with a salesman (A lady from Milton had two of them tied up with the life history on her computer), I was able to talk with someone who gave me the news that they were out of stock and he had nothing in that price range.  Told him I would go over to Best Buy and check there, to which he informed me they would match any price.

I got to Best Buy and the only one they had of that model was on display and they don't sell the ones on display.  I asked if he had anything in that price range and he told me he had one for $399.  I looked at the specs, but to be truthful, it didn't mean that much to me, so grabbed my cell phone and called my daughter who was on her way to a meeting in New Hampshire.  Had her talk with the salesman and then I talked with her and she told me it would be fine.

It has Windows Vista on it, which sure gives you a lot of aggrivating prompts as to whether you want something to continue or not, but I guess it is for Safety's Sake.  Maryann had an external hard drive on her old computer, so was able to get some information from there.  Meanwhile, will try to get the other one up if possible, or at least get some of the information off the hard drive.  Needless to say, I didn't come up on the forum, only briefly last night before I went to bed.

We didn't need anything except the actual computer tower, but have to say, the price of computers sure has gone down over the years.
