CIEE welcomes international students to Fairfax

FAIRFAX -- Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), a worldwide leader of international education and student exchanges, is looking for families to open their heart and home and welcome an international exchange student into the community.

Students will be arriving in Fairfax at the end of August to spend the academic year. These students hail from all over the globe and are eager to learn about the United States and become a member of an American family, community and school.

Students participating in the exchange are between 15 and 18 years of age, have studied English for a minimum of three years, have their own medical insurance and have undergone a thorough personal screening and interview process. Many of these students arrive in the United States with dreams of participating in clubs, sports, arts, music and other activities. They return to their native land with improved English skills, a sense of independence and self-confidence, more maturity and a better global understanding. Most importantly they will have made relationships that will last forever.

While a student is living in local homes, there will be a Local Coordinator nearby, who will provide an orientation and offer support throughout the year.

Any families who cannot host for the full year can consider hosting a semester student. Families are also needed to serve as "back-ups" in case a student needs temporary housing if a family becomes unable to host or the student needs to switch placements.

To participate or to request more information on this rewarding intercultural experience, please contact: Rachel Kring at 802-343-7619 or email: rlkring@yahoo.com.

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to helping people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. Founded in 1947, CIEE has become a worldwide leader in international education and exchanges, serving more than a thousand educational institutions and over a million students each year.
