MONTPELIER — The state police is warning the public about a new e-mail scam that is circulating to some members and nonmembers of the Vermont State Employees Credit Union.

The message warns recipients their credit card account has been compromised and the card has been deactivated.

Recipients are then asked to call a telephone number to activate the card.

Police are urging anyone who may have given out personal information about bank accounts to call their bank and their local police department.

The bogus message carries the subject “Important VSECU Notice.”
