A controversial proposal to build a Wal-Mart store just north of Saint Albans City may have received a boost, after the developer agreed to invest in the downtown. But the deal leaves Wal-Mart opponents just as determined to stop the project.

I don't actually see a Walmart in St. Albans in my lifetime, unless this small group can be stopped from appealing - It has been years since I have parked my car on Main Street in St. Albans and gone in to a store to buy something.  Maryann and I drove by one night about 6 p.m. and there is nothing open of what businesses there are.  From the photos, looks like the four buildings they are talking about are just South of City Hall.

Being in the construction and property development field I can appreciate the local interest of keeping a town and or town site seemingly "untouched".
I have not read the concerns of the "local" opposing forces.
I do know, from past experience, that the "Owners" will incorporate architectural aspects that are acceptable to the community.

Any major retailer will create jobs with site planning, site development, building construction, employees of the completed retail spaces, employment of the various support personal that take to maintain the retail area, and the people that supply the store ie; freight haulers, fuel suppliers, local utilities, and not to mention, if applicable... local tax revenue.

What is the basis of the appealing parties?
