Snowmobile trails to open Dec. 16
The VAST snowmobile trail system officially opens Dec. 16.
Vermont State Police remind snowmobilers that auxiliary troopers will patrol the trails in Central Vermont both day and night.
All snowmobiles must have both a Vermont registration and VAST stickers affixed to the left side of the machine, said State Police Sgt. Robert Danaher.
Danaher offered other reminders:
- All riders must wear helmets and windshields may not have any jagged or sharp edges.
- Operating headlights and tail lights are required.
- Snowmobilers must carry proof of insurance while on VAST trails.
- The use of any colored headlight lens is prohibited in Vermont.
- Laws on driving under the influence of alcohol are the same on the VAST trail network as they are on the highways.
