Margaret M. Yuen, R. N.

St. Albans - Mrs. Margaret M. “Peggy” Yuen, R. N., age 82, died Sunday morning, February 1, 2009, in the Franklin County Rehab Center following an illness of several weeks.  She was born in Colchester August 26, 1926 daughter of the late Andrew J. “Mike” Mawn, Sr., and Margaret (Teachout) Mawn. 

Margaret graduated from St. Mary’s High School Class of 1944, was an honor graduate from Simmons College, School of Nursing, in Boston, class of 1949, received her Masters Degree and Doctorate Education, in Nurses Education from, New York University.  She was employed at Mass General Hospital in Boston, Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research in New York, then taught nursing at Bronx Community College for 20 years, retiring in 1992.  She returned to St. Albans in 2004.  Margaret had been the District Officer of the New York Nurses Association, a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing, New York State United Teachers Association, National Audubon Society, New York Opera, Symphony and Metropolitan Museum, Green Mountain Club, St. Albans Historical Society, a former communicant of Immaculate Conception Parish in New York City and now a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in St. Albans.

Margaret traveled extensively to many foreign states and countries to include Kenya, Austria, France, Spain, Ireland, Mexico, Canada and Alaska.

Margaret is survived by her brother Andrew J. Mawn, Jr., and his wife Kathryn Mawn of Woburn, Ma., sisters Virginia and her husband Robert Howrigan of Fairfield, M. Elizabeth Mercure of St. Albans, Patricia Heimberger of Cocoa Beach, Fl., Sister Rita Mawn of Saranac Lake, N. Y., Kathleen Tabor of St. Albans, brother-in-law William Coleman of Tappan, N.Y., 26 nieces and nephews and many cousins and dear friends.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John Yuen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb 6, at 11:00 A. M. in St. Mary’s Church.  Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 3 to 9 P. M. Thursday.  Interment will be in the Mawn/Yuen family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Masses or the Resurrection House, 37 River St., Saranac Lake, N. Y. 12983 or the New York Nurses Assoc., 2113 Western Ave., Guilderland, N.
