Appears Several Fairfax Firemen's Jobs Saved

Lots of people discussing how slow their jobs and businesses were yesterday at the Polls. Among the voters were a couple of our Fairfax Firemen who work for the St. Albans Fire Department, who were on their way to the Polls in St. Albans to try and convince the voters to vote down the budget that would effect their jobs.

By no means a great day to stand outside the polls. Reports show that St. Albans did vote down the budget:

St. Albans City residents rejected the budget on Town Meeting Day Tuesday, and with the budget rejected a controversial restructuring of the city's fire department.

If the budget had passed, the fire department would have been reduced from 13 full-time positions to seven full-time positions.

The city has until the end of June to pass a budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, but Mayor Marty Manahan said earlier in the evening it was unclear when exactly a new budget would be presented if it became necessary.
