City police are looking into several complaints in which people who purchased vehicles on Craig's List were duped into believing the sales were protected by an eBay protection plan.

According to police, the seller encourages buyers to send money via a "money-gram" or Western Union, and says the sale is protected by an eBay protection plan.

The seller then provides a false case number for the plan, police said.

Police are warning people not to wire money for these types of purchases on Craig's List. eBay does not protect the buyer on wire transfers.
