For those of you new to Fairfax, Kay, Robert and her family used to live at 1961 Main Street, known to many as the Old George Lavallee Farm just before the Camp Grounds on Route 104 here in Fairfax.
Kay D. (Moore) Kopacz
Jeffersonville - Kay Dawn (Moore) Kopacz, 71 passed away at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday April 8, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Kay was born in Kitaning, PA on June 29, 1937 daughter of Virginia (Cochran) Moore and the late James Moore. She married Robert Kopacz on July 3, 1954 in Hyde Park Methodist Church in Hammond, Indiana whom predeceased her on October 20, 1997. Kay loved and adored each of her grandchildren; they were her blessings in life. She recognized and cherished their interests and activities. Her love of motorcycles began at an early age. Pursuing her passion led her to learning how to ride a motorcycle and completing a course on motorcycle safety at the age of 65. She loved winter activities. She enjoyed snowmobiling for many years and also liked to downhill and cross country ski. She loved adventure and travel seeing many places but made her home in Vermont because she enjoyed the changing of the seasons, the stunning landscapes and the down to earth friendliness of the people. Kay & Bob both had a passion for antiques, opening antique shops in Maine and Vermont. Both spent much time together on antique buying trips. Kay enjoyed following her husband’s Polish traditions at Christmas, making Pierogis, Kapusta and other favorite dishes. She was an amazing hostess and cook who thoroughly enjoyed entertaining for her children and friends. She had a passion and natural talent for floral arranging. In her later years she enjoyed working in flower shops in Jeffersonville.
She is survived by her three sons and their families: Robert Kopacz wife Lori and their three children Heather, Beverly and Pamela of Hardwick; David Kopacz wife Stacey and their four children Taylor, Fletcher, Marissa and Allie of Hopkinsville, KY; Douglas Kopacz and his wife Erin of Montgomery Center. Her mother Virginia (Cochran) Moore of TX; Her brother Raymond Moore and his wife Denise of TX; Two sisters: Faye Kuyat and her husband Jim of CA and Faith Thompson and her husband John of CA; Also loved as her own grandchildren Rachel and Caitlin Schattman.
She was also predeceased by her brother James Moore.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the nurses on Shepardson 4 and the oncology unit at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
Their will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel with the Reverend Peggy Tooker officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.
