Alleged Assaults Prompt Manhunt In St. Albans

A St. Albans man is being held without bail in connection with Thursday's incident at a shopping center.

Police say the 55 year old panhandler, pistol-whipped two people with a handgun in a wooded area behind the Highgate Commons Shopping Center in St. Albans Town. They received minor injuries.

An intense manhunt was launched, including the use of a border patrol helicopter. The man surrendered over an hour later without incident. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
