Economists had expected 363,000 job cuts last months, and that the jobless rate would rise to 9.6 percent from 9.4 percent in May.

If laid-off workers who have given up looking for new jobs or have settled for part-time work are included, the unemployment rate would have been 16.5 percent in June, the highest on records dating to 1994.

I like to post good news, but when it comes to the economy, things are not looking good.  Was reading in the paper the other day where a couple quit their job, thinking they were going to get unemployment - Not So!!!

In regards to looking for a new job, I think there is a lot of competition out there.  If I had any advise to give anybody, it would be to overlook the things you don't like about your present job, for the time being at least.  Things will get better eventually.

I used to be upset about the fact that I was 26 years old, and working at a Subway. Feeling depressed most of the time there, and over shadowed by my Japanese college professer brother, it was a little discouraging....... Im not so upset nowadays for I know that I have a job, and can pay my bills to support my little family. Its sad when I have have to turn away people I would have NEVER suspected to come in searching for employment because we just aren't hiring. I hope everything turns around , I mean isn't it all physics? What goes up must come down, and the only place you can go from the bottom is up? Boy I sure hope so. Theres alot of damn good people out there that deserve alot more than our economy can offer...

And further more, Henry......... In response to the couple that quit thier jobs to collect un-employment......LAZY LAZY LAZY!!!! I mean, do these people expect to just sit around all day watching daytime T.V., and wait for thier prized check to come to thier rescue? Talk about making a complete mockery of the hard times bestowed upon us. These people should be smacked upside the head, and walked to the bus-stop in September.... Take them back to school

O.K. here's my little dream.  How about opening a little place across the street from the Berry Farm- called the Merry Berry. I could train high school kids, culinary arts, business management and service industry skills, a small cafe supply it with local foods, educate our youth with a skill, and have the patrons pay as you wish, I mean if you have some money pay some money, no money hungry come on in, have big bucks, leave a nice fat tip ( that would benefit us all!) A chalk board menu offering 3 choices with salad, dessert and and entree, that would change depending on the season and foods advailable. When the space was not being used it could be a meeting place, or a teaching center for others who have culinary skill that would benefit the younger generation such as pickling, canning, or other food preservation skills. OK its a dream, but it would build community, and teach, and just be a good thing.
