Two more of Maryann's shows that she watches are being discontinued.  As The World Turns and Bonnie Hunt's Show.  The Soaps are really disappearing.  Perhaps it is caused by so many women being out in the work force, although I do have to admit, speaking from experience, many men who work (ed) shift work also watch them.  In the old days it was kind of a communication outside the house for many and the families on the Soaps were like people in the immediate family.

If your mother happened to watch the soaps, I am sure you heard her talking to other Soap Fans about the health and well being of members of the Soap Family.

I just heard on the morning new about As The World Turns. I would watch that as a teenager & when I was a stay at home Mom. Loved that show.

Holy crap! As The World Turns is leaving too? So that leaves Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful on CBS. To tell you the truth, I don't even know what Ch.3 or CBS has on at 3pm to take the place of Guilding Light.
Huh. So no more soaps after 2pm on CBS.

It's all about cheaper programming. That's why NBC took off all of its 10p programming in favor of the Jay Leno show that is cheap to produce, but is tanking in the ratings. CBS might find the same deal as it replaces beloved soaps with game shows that don't have the same kind of soul that a soap does.
