FRANK LOUIS GIRARD, JR.
NORTH PORT, Fla. / FAIRFIELD, Vt. Frank L. Girard Jr., 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at the Springs Nursing Home in Sarasota, Fla. He was born in Fairfield, Vt. on Dec. 23, 1928, the son of the late Frank and Alphonsine (Belisle) Girard.
He was a native of Fairfield and a recent resident of North Port, Fla. Frank enjoyed farming in Fairfield for many years. He also retired from IBM, after many years of service. After retiring, he spent his winters in North Port, Fla., and enjoyed summers at Fairfield Pond. He was a past member of The Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Credit Union, local and state Grange, and the Farm Bureau. Frank also served as Justice of the Peace.
Survivors include his six children: Stephanie Trudell of Port Charlotte, Fla., Francis Ellery Girard and his wife, Beverly, of Nokomis, Fla., Diane Barkyoumb and her husband, Kenneth, of ST. Albans, David Girard and his wife, Beth, of West Lynn, Ore., Deborah Woodward and her husband, Bruce, of Fairfax, Jerome Girard and his wife, Tracy, of Ramrod Key, Fla.; one brother, Mark Girard and his wife, Patsy, of Hattisburg, Miss.; three sisters: Alma Kennedy of South Burlington, Vt., Madelyn Fontaine and her husband, Raymond, of Andover, Mass., Theresa Gordon and her husband, Lewis, of Hannibal, Mo.; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Edward Girard; and his grandson, Cody Woodward.
A memorial service, and celebration of his life, will be held at New Hope Church, Nokomis, Fla., on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at 4 p.m.
