Hi all,
Happy Mid-February and we're starting our seeds!!
The tomatoes are up and we've started grafting the good tasting varieties onto the disease-resistant root stocks. Really it's just cutting the tops off two plants and sticking one top on the stem of the other, clipping together, cross your fingers and hope they get along.... Well, there's the plastic dome cover, keeping just the right amount of light out/in and daily misting, but the magic is the plants and sunlight.
Bedding plant seeds are getting organized into their planting dates and separated by who likes to germinate at above 70 degrees or warmer and who wants it cooler, cover or not cover, dark or light, etc. The first seeding date is today for the petunias, gazanias, dahlias, snapdragons, dianthus, delphinium and a sundry of others. Spring is in the air, sort of.
We sent out the CSA Flyers in early February and thank those of you who have signed up so far. If you did not receive a flyer in the mail and are interested in looking at one or signing up, you can go to our website riverberryfarm.com and click on CSA: Community Supported Agriculture or email us your mailing address and we can mail you a flyer.
For you River Berry Farm egg lovers, we should be back into production this year. We got 400 new baby chicks in November who should be ready to start popping out eggs come May.
Have a great rest of your winter and just think, only 10 weeks until the greenhouses open with piles of annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, organic vegetable and herb starts and ornamental and fruit-bearing shrubs. Agh!!! What am I doing sitting here...better get to work!
Feel free to browse through the greenhouses anytime before we open. The plants won't be all organized and labeled, but the hint of spring is so refreshing.
See you soon and thanks for all your support!
