Yup!! there is the smell of boiling cabbage in the air, although my Irish wife prefers the boiled ham with it instead of the corned beef - Must be the French Blood in her.  Instead of corned beef & cabbage, our family used to have what was called a boiled dinner which seemed to last most of the week as it was reheated and reheated and my Dad saying, "You know this is always better warmed up."
There was also a little more to it than Ham, cabbage, potatoes & carrots as turnip was also added.  The turnip plus the cabbage made it almost lethal.

We had corned beef and cabbage at our Senior Dinner yesterday.

What are my favorite St. Patrick's Day Memories?  Well, as most of you know, I went to a Parochial High School at St. Mary's down in St. Albans.  Our Principal was an Irish Monsignor (Monsignor Welch), who each St. Patrick's day after a morning Irish Assembly would stand before the school, say a few words and end with, "Now you can all take the rest of the day off," which ended up with hoots and cheers from all the students.  Every year the same thing happened, but nobody got sick of the same old thing happening.  Back in those days also, we Catholics fasted, however, on the Feast of St. Patrick, we were not obligated to do so, so it was a Win Win situation with the no school for the rest of the day and eat all you wanted.  Top that all off with, if it was a beautiful day like today, what more could you ask for.

A Happy St. Patrick's Day To All
