Work this summer with a $116,000 Federal Grant received and a $40,000 State Grant applied for, should alleviate the situation when a pre-cast concrete bridge, with an opening 24 foot wide and 12 foot high is installed.  This bridge will replace the two five foot culverts now used to handle the flow of the brook which has proven to be inadequate.

This doesn't mean there will be no more flooding, but as long as the brook doesn't overflow there shouldn't be.

Although the photos below show a much larger bridge, the same procedure will be used to construct the bridge being installed and should give you a general idea of what is going on:


Design:  State of the art design procedures utilize advantages of unique shape.

Reinforcing:  Reinforcing cages are pre-assembled to meet site-specific requirements.

Manufacture:  Quality is assured through controlled conditions for plant-produced concrete products.

Transportation:  Entire structure arrives on schedule ready for installation.

Foundation:  Strip footings or slab base can be either cast in place or precast.

Installation:  Precast units are quickly and precisely set in place.

Joint Seal:  Commercial joint wrap is applied as a seal between precast units.

Wingwalls:  Setting of precast wingwalls completes bridge.

Backfill:  Structure stiffness and vertical walls of unit allow backfill to be placed rapidly and effectively.

Finished bridge:  It is economical, durable, quickly instaled and looks great.

Hopefully sights like the one below taken by Todd Cohen on May 20, 2006 will become a rarity, once the new bridge is installed:
