Richmond--Russell F. Devino, 78 of Hinesburg Road, died peacefully in the presence of his loving wife and family, early Sunday morning July 16, 2006 at his home in Richmond.

Russell was born February 23, 1928 in the Buck Hollow area of Fairfax, the son of the late Erwin Nelson and Hazel Emily Derry Devino.  He attended school in Fairfax and served with the US Army during WWII receiving both the WWII Victory Medal as well as the Army of Occupation Medal for his service to his country.

On July 28, 1948 he married Hildegard Hafner in Ingolstadt, Germany.  Together they have made their home in Richmond since 1971.  

An avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, garden and ice fish, he enjoyed his small family farm where he was able to raise cows, pigs, turkeys, ducks, horses and chickens.  His hobbies included growing apple and pear trees as well as blueberries.  An avid Beekeeper, Russell loved his bees. He was a member of the Vermont Beekeepers Association, attending many Fairs and Exhibitions, winning several awards and ribbons for his Honey and Cream Honey that his bees produced. A member of the American Kennel Club, Russell raised Beagles and enjoyed Trail Hunting with them.  He enjoyed being employed by the City of Burlington, retiring from the City Water Department after 42 years of Service.

A very active man who loved his family very much, he was the best he could be and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Hildegard of Richmond and their children, Erwin Devino and his wife Joann of Shelburne, Linde LaBelle and husband Clem of Burlington, Fred Devino of South Hero, Herbert Devino and companion, Jane Gauthier of Milton, Heide Blow and husband, Gerald of Greer, SC, Hilde Caswell and husband Alan of Richmond and Rebecca Knight and husband, Monte of Huntington.  His grandchildren, Mary, Ann, Jennifer, Nicole, Laurie, Russell, Fred, Tess, Dylan, Jenna, Kristoffer, Angelique, Melissa, Emily, Kristen and Amy as well as several great grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
   
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at noon in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.  Burial will immediately follow in the Westford Plains Cemetery in Westford.

Russell’s family wishes to thank the Visiting Nurse Association for all the kindness and compassion extended to them during his recent illness, therefore it is asked, that if one wishes, Memorial Contributions may be made to the, Hospice of the Champlain Valley, A program of the VNA, 1110 Prim Road, Suite 1, Colchester, VT  05446

Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service at noon in the Minor Funeral Home.
