Dr. James E. Manning, Jr.
October 23, 1944 - December 19, 2010

Fairfax - Dr. James E. Manning, Jr., 66, died unexpectedly in his home in Fairfax on December 19, 2010. Dr. Manning was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 23, 1944, the son of the late James Earl Manning and the late Mary (Connie) Manning (Condon). Dr. Manning graduated from the University of Vermont in 1966 and from Temple University Dental School in Philadelphia, PA in 1970. Dr. Manning served honorably as a dentist at Fort Bragg, NC in the US Army during the Vietnam War achieving the rank of Major. In the mid 1970s Dr. Manning began the Fairfax Little League program.  Dr. Manning ran a successful dental practice for over 30 years in St. Albans, Vermont prior to his retirement. He was an avid sailor, long distance runner, builder, and loved downhill skiing. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Fairfax, Vermont; and son Todd Manning and his wife, Sherry of Richmond, Virginia, daughter Heather Manning of Reno, Nevada, and grandchildren Ashley and Gregory Manning also of Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Manning is also survived by a brother Paul B. Manning, owner of PBM Products formerly of Georgia, Vermont and resident of Troy, Virginia, a sister Barbara Pearson of Charleston, South Carolina, and a sister Jeanne Lewis of Monrovia, California. 

There will be no public visiting hours held.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 23 at 2 PM at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel.  Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.  Arrangements are by John D.
