Lawrence Francis "Babe" Sloan
January 12, 1927 - November 09, 2006

FLETCHER — Lawrence Francis “Babe“ Sloan, 79, passed away in Northwestern Medical Center on Thursday Nov. 9, 2006. Babe was born on Jan. 12, 1927, and raised in Fletcher, son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Irish) Sloan. He served his country well in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Olive Demar on Aug. 17, 1968, in Swanton. Babe operated a dairy farm on the land he was born and raised on. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Babe will be greatly missed by all those who had the true pleasure to know and love him. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Olive Sloan; his two sons, James Gebo and wife Paula of Fairfield, J. R. Sloan and wife Terry of Fletcher; three daughters, Susan Rooney and husband Chuck of Bolton, Penny Kane and husband Kevin of Fletcher, and Lisa Liberty and husband Troy of Richmond; his sister, Ruth Burleson of Fairfax; and many cousins, nieces, nephews including a special nephew, Paul Burleson; and 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, James and Michael Gebo; Amanda Rooney; Shannon and Megan Kane; Max, Katie and Derreck Sloan; Rebecca and Corkie Liberty.  He was predeceased by his brother Alton Sloan, and his sisters Theresa Young and Mary Fay. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.
