Alan L. Gray
         

Fairfax - Alan Lewis Gray, 64, passed away at his home in Fairfax surrounded by his loving family on Monday May 16, 2011.  He was born in Castine, ME on April 2, 1947 son of the late Lewis L. and Florence (Brockway) Gray.  Alan was proud to have served his country with the US Air Force retiring in 1987 after 20 dedicated years.  He was a talented musician and would honor those who served by playing taps during their graveside services.  Alan married the former Susan Valyou on August 22, 1987 in Underhill, VT.  He was a very good cook and looked forward to returning to the beautiful lakes of Maine.  Alan was deeply loved by his family and will be missed by all.

He is survived by:  his wife Susan Gray of Fairfax; two sons Andrew Gray of Milton; Donald Gray and fiancé Jolene of Burlington; a daughter Heather Gray and husband of OK; six grandchildren:  Lillian; Willow; Nicki; Andrew; Mandi; Zach; his brother Joseph A. Gray of FL; Sisters Carolyn M. Gray and Mary M. Deans both of ME; a special childhood friend Brent Soper; Many nieces, nephews, cousins and his wonderful pet and companion “Rocksea”.

He is also predeceased by his brothers Leon and Donald Gray and sisters Harriet Marston, Irene Bowden and Jean Jay.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday May 21, 2011 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel where military honors will be accorded this US Air Force veteran at 4:00 pm.  A graveside memorial service will be held in Orland, ME at a date to be announced.  Memorial contributions in Alan’s memory can be made to Franklin County Home Health and Hospice, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.  Arrangements are by John D. Workman, A. W.
