We are looking for a contractor to put some siding on one section of our house.  This is a smaller job, with about 170 square feet of coverage to be done.  Does anybody have any recommendations?

You could try Steve Orton of Twilight Construction - If he can't do it, you could try Mark Minor who lives up here on The Wilkins Road

Both Steve and Mark are good choices.  I have used Steve many times.

Steve and Mark both good choices you could try Greg Hartmann to all are local, and all do a good job.

Shoe seems a bit broad.

I want to eat and heat my house.

I don't think 10 percent overhead and 5 percent profit is unreasonable.

I am currently pricing and managing jobs for the Anchorage School District.
We have to price this stuff out of a "book" and the good "book" is not real world.

For example, if I need to replace some type X sheet rock  that is only 2 foot by 2 foot, that is all I get paid for.
Try to find AND buy a 2' x 2' piece of X-gwb.
You need to buy the full sheet. 4' x 8'.

So now, what shoe is where?

We are not even breaking even on this contract.

This rant is not directed at anyone direct, just a rant.
I just don't like the rap that contractors get.

I have this contract under me due to my fault of being a people person.....shut it, ED.
I let stuff roll off of my back and just remember I DID NOT SIGN or ENTER into this contract!

Just joking. :)  I have only a little experience with contractors, and none of it bad so far.  I make sure to tell them I'm poor before they quote me a price. ;)
