Dick and I purchased our Fairfax house the day after it was offered for sale 67 years ago. I have always loved the Mt. Mansfield and Lamoille River vista, but realize it is the sense of belonging and the community that has made it home.
I am especially proud of our school and the foresight and generosity of Hiram Bellows to establish Bellows Free Academy where any child might have a free education. To insure that the spirit of his will would be preserved the Trustees were to be of different religious beliefs, a farsighted decision. The school has always been the hub of the community. Our seven children have served on committees and found them interesting and educational. We voiced different opinions, but the decisions were made to represent our best judgment. It has been a pleasure to see many new young voters as the community grows.
Thank you for this recognition. It is my hope that the Fairfax community will mean as much to you and your families as it has to ours.
