Dr. Narkewicz was our pediatrician for all three girls - We made many a trip down in the middle of the night to his office which used to be on Prospect Street in Burlington - He was a very nice man - I remember when our youngest was in the hospital and Maryann talked with him over the phone, he told her he was having problems getting her to drink - Maryann told him she loved TANG, so Dr. Narkewicz went out and got her some. It mentioned three doctors in the obituary and one of them was on duty 24 hours a day so you never had to worry about seeing a doctor. In addition the girls also saw Dr. Gentry, an allergy specialist - Don't know how many people I have spoken to and mentioned that Dr. Narkewicz was our pediatrician and they would respond, "Ours Too." They had a huge practice.
RICHARD NARKEWICZ, MD BURLINGTON - Richard Narkewicz, MD died on Feb. 21, 2012, following a long battle with complications from cancer therapy. Born in Walpole, N.H. in 1934, he attended St. Michael's College in Winooski and received his MD from UVM in 1960. Following a residency in pediatrics in San Antonio, Texas, he was a pediatrician in the Air Force in Rome, N.Y. He moved to Burlington in 1966 and started a solo pediatric practice. He later joined with James Stackpole and Jack Murray and founded Timberlane Pediatrics. He was a tireless advocate for children in the American Academy of Pediatrics and was elected President of that organization in 1989. He retired in 1997 to spend more time with his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol; three children, Michael Narkewicz, MD, of Golden, Colo., Brian Narkewicz of Rutland, and Karen Hoff, MD, of Albany, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.
