COLCHESTER, Vt. -
4G coverage is coming to communities across northern Vermont in mid-May.

Verizon Wireless announced it's 4G LTE network will be available in 30 communities starting May 17 for any customers with 4G LTE compatible phones and devices.

Communities slated for network upgrades are:
Barnet, Barre, Brookfield, Burlington, Cambridge, Colchester, Coventry, Ely, Essex, Fairfax, Ferrisburg, Georgia, Jeffersonville, Jericho, Lyndon, Lyndonville, Middlebury, Middlesex, Milton, Montpelier, Morrisville, Newport, Randolph, Saint Albans, Saint Johnsbury, Shelburne, Smugglers Notch, South Burlington, Stowe, Thetford, Underhill, Vergennes, Williston

Verizon said the 4G LTE network is 10 times faster than 3G networks

I have been getting a 4G LTE signal in the area (Burlington, Fairfax, St. Albans, Essex, Williston) since March 26th or 27th and it has been great!

I am not sure why they are announcing the service beginning on May 17th, but I hope they are turning on even more towers next week. For example, I get coverage in South Burlington down to about Pizzeria Uno on Shelburne Rd, but can't get any coverage inside my office at GE Healthcare.

You will need a newer LTE-enabled Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola RAZR, HTC Rezound, Motorola Droid 4, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Thunderbolt, among others) to take advantage of the 4G LTE service. The new iPad also supports LTE, but not the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 5, which should arrive in the fall, will have an LTE antenna in it too.

Here is a screenshot of a speed test I ran on my phone back on April 3, 2012 in Burlington.

I thought I heard somewhere that they were performing a test prior to the actual Mid-May date.  I know others who have been receiving it as well.
