FAIRFAX - Vermont State Police responded Sunday to an Old Academy Street residence for a reported assault.

Following their investigation, police said that xxxx xxx, 22, of Fairfield, allegedly attempted to removed a dress from an infant child being held by xxxx xxx, 25, of Fairfax, the child's mother.  The Fairfax woman pulled the child away from the Fairfield woman, who then allegedly punched the Fairfax woman in the face, causing pain and leaving evidence of the blow, said police. The Fairfield woman was issued a citation to appear at Franklin County District Court Sept. 17 to answer to the charge of simple assault.
