Maynard I. Pelkey
St. Albans - Maynard I. Pelkey, 80, a lifelong resident of this area passed away early Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the Haven Health Care Facility with his loving family at his side. He was born in St. Albans, Vermont on December 31, 1926, the son of the late George W. and Mary E. (Richard) Pelkey. On January 3, 1949, in Swanton, Maynard married the former Iris B. Thibault, who survives him.
Maynard proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He then was employed in the shop and railyard for the former Central Vermont Railroad retiring in 1967 and then retired in 1990 from Dowling’s, Inc. He was a life member of Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion. Maynard was a very active member of St. Albans Lodge # 1566, B.P.O.E. were he just recently received a life membership. He also enjoyed bowling and a good game of “gin rummy” with the guys at the club.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Iris of St. Albans, a son, Steven Pelkey and his wife, Joan of St. Albans , a daughter, Kim Heyer and her husband, Jason of Fairfax, four grandchildren, Matt and Sara Heyer and Shanna and Joshua Pelkey, three step- grandchildren, Jessica Leo and her husband, Marc and Allen and Erin Metivier, a great-grandson, Owen Leo, his brother, Arnold Pelkey of St. Albans, his sisters-in-law, Elaine Pelkey of Georgia and Candi Pelkey of Liverpool, New York, his brothers-in-law, Orin Thibault and his wife, Joyce of St. Albans and Charles Martin and his wife, Shelley of Swanton and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Maynard was preceded in death by his sister, Madonna Pelkey, his brothers, Walter, Herbert, Chester, Norman and Carlton, his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Grace Thibault and his sister-in-law, Betty Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at 11:00 AM in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy, Pastor of Holy Angels Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Maynard’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 27th from 5-9 PM and St. Albans Lodge # 1566, B.P.O.E. will hold their ritualistic service at 8:00 PM.
