Getting to the Hole-in-the-Rock in no easy task. Fisrt you have to get to the Town of Escalante, UT. That's easy. Then you drive 49 miles on a heavily washboarded Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument Road. It's nerve-racking with everything and everybody bouncing here and there. The next 5 miles through Glen Canyon National Recreation Area are challenging. A high clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicle is required. You're driving on slick rock with crevices and holes filled in with rock and clay. In places this fill loosens up causing ruts where only aggressive tires will do. I had 'em. Then you arrive at the hole-in-the rock. Review the write-up I've attached for the story. Pic "Hole-in-the-Rock (6)" shows the descent (area behind me) after entering the notch, leading to the Colorado River, or now Lake Powell. Whatever you think about the Mormans, one cannot deny they were great pioneers and improvisers. The last pic "(20)" shows entry into the notch, which is the area in front of me.

By the way we're staying at an RV place called "Shooting Star  Drive-Air". It has an RV Park for folks like us, then it has permanently emplaced Airstream Trailers for rent. For all, the price included a drive-in outdoor theater where you watch movies while sitting in vintage cars. Helga and I sat in 60's convertible Catilack eating popcorn and candy.

Anyway, we're still having fun.
