Yesterday's St. Albans Messenger had a very nice letter in it regarding Normand Lavallee:

Normand Lavallee's memory looms large

The world in general and Franklin County in particular is a little poorer this week than it was two weeks ago.  Normand Lavallee was not only a multi-talented person but always had a story that could make one laugh, cry or think.
Of course, everyone knew about his dedication as a language teacher, his pride while serving his country, his rich French heritage, and his obvious talents with his music, either while playing almost every instrument under the sun, producing a play, or his singing and acting abilities. As Professor Harold Hill in "The Music Man", an exceptionally difficult part, he pulled it off as well as Robert Preston. He always showed up at band rehearsals with a plethora of instruments, looking to fill in where needed.
And which band did he play in? Take your pick. Fairfax-Westford Band, Citizen's Band, Enosburg Falls Town Band, 40th Army Band and there are probably more.
I've known Norm for about 20 years when I first joined theEnosburg Band, he played flute, piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, and finally percussion and bells.  He directed when our regular director could not, and generally kept us entertained in between numbers at rehearsals. It was a joy to have him back where I sat just to hear what he had to say whether it was the play he was currently doing or where his latest trip had taken him, or the latest joke or pun that he had heard and was regaling us with in his typical dry humor.
I regret I had to miss the funeral for Norm. I understand it was a full house. I am not surprised, and I know Norm would be pleased.
