I would like to wish all of our Mothers, living or deceased, a Happy Mother's Day.  The above photo of me and my mother was taken in 1948 when we lived on Fairfield Ridge and I was about 15 years old.  I was blessed to have a Mother who was extremely patient and kind and throughout my life whenever I went to see her always greeted me with a hug and a kiss, no matter how many times a day I might drop in.  She lived to be 85 years old and spent the last 5 years of her life in bed unable to walk due to a broken hip that had been pinned, but due to dementia she was never able to learn to walk again.

This Mother's Day, those of you who's Mother's are living might want to have someone take a photo of you and her together, rather than try and search through all the photos you might have to try to find one of you and her after she has passed on.  The Mother is the heart of the home and the home is never the same once she is no longer with us.  She is the one who influences the lives of our children and I speak from experience, having lost my wife and the Mother of my children in 2010.  I still live in the same house, surrounded by many reminders of her and have difficulty in changing things that she had planned and picked out.  I doubt there is any time my family gets together that she is not mentioned and my girls don't try to recreate something the way she would have done it.  Each one of my girls has a special photo of themselves with their Mother on their Facebook Page and in a prominent place in my living room is the last good photo taken of Maryann and my three girls taken in 2008.

Mothers cannot be replaced, but there are memories of them that will never be forgotten.
