June 2013 Programs at the Fairfax Community LibraryJune arrives in a few days, and with it (hopefully) warmer weather and an array of programs here at the library! This month we have a repurposed book project for adults on June 8th. For teens, we are offering a free Red Cross Babysitting Training on June 22nd. For kids, our summer reading program kicks off this month! On June 27th, we have a master puppeteer coming to do a puppet story time and puppet-making craft. As well, we are teaming up again with LCATV for three Young Producers Workshops for kids; our first one is on June 24th. For everyone, our own Town Librarian is offering a very useful bug spray class on the 25th.
News from the Town Librarian: Summer approaches! The library is gearing up for a busy summer with concerts and programs for all ages. Stay tuned for our complete summer calendar coming soon. We will also soon be posting a list of all the discount-entry passes we have on our website – www.fairfaxvtlibrary.org. Library summer hours start on June 17th.
Many Fairfax students and families start reading the DCF (Dorothy Canfield Fisher) and GMBA (Green Mountain Book Award) books in the summer, both to get a jump on reading the 5 needed to vote in next year’s award contest, and to simply enjoy a good read. The titles on these two Vermont based book awards are carefully chosen by committees of public and school librarians to be the best of the best and to offer a range of reading interests. We have copies of all the titles, many in multiple formats (print, audio, downloadable audio, eBook) and they will be available for check out and reserves starting June 15th. Your librarians are busy reading as many of them as we can so we can talk to you knowledgably about each one! The library will be hosting a DCF book club this summer for kids entering 5 – 8th grade. We’ll read 3 of the DCF books followed by group discussion. We’ll have a pizza party for the final meeting!
Here are links to this year’s lists:
