Traffic Delays At Exit 11 On I89

Due to a Tractor Trailer that is off the road into a median about 300 feet south of exit 11 (Richmond exit) drivers in both North Bound and South  Bound lanes can expect traffic delays for the morning commute. Both North Bound Lane and South Bound Lanes will be to 1 lane to allow clean up and a safety zone for Emergency Units on scene.
Motorists are asked to find alternate routes to avoid this area.

An updated press release will be put out when lanes have re-opened.

DESCRIPTION OF VEHICLE: 2003 Freightliner TT Unit hauling approximately 7,000 gallons of Milk.
DAMAGE TO VEHICLE: No apparent damage
INJURIES: No Injuries

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On the above date and time Vermont State Police were contacted about a TT unit which had gone off the road and into the median. The vehicle remained upright and did not sustain any damage, however it became stuck in the mud.

Preliminary investigation revealed that operator # 1 was traveling SB and approaching the exit 11 SB on ramp when he observed an oversize load( truck hauling a large I-beam) enter onto the highway from exit 11. Operator #1 swerved into the median in order to avoid striking the I-beam. After going off the road a small quantity of diesel fuel spilled out of the fuel tanks on the truck due to the truck being parked at an angle. The truck remained upright and there was no milk spilled during the incident.

Currently there are crews from Richmond Fire Department, Charlebois Trucking and Clarks Trucking on scene assessing the situation. At this time they have the passing lane on the SB side closed off causing minor traffic delays. The NB lane is currently open, both lanes.

There have been tentative plans made to remove the truck around 09:30 hours from the NB side. This will require the closure of the passing lane of travel for an undetermined amount but not believed to exceed one hour.
