Drug Take Back Day

On October 26, 2013 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, 57 locations across Vermont will be prepared to accept unused or unwanted prescription medications. Drug Take Back Day is a law enforcement effort to assist with the proper disposal of medicines. Pills should not be flushed or thrown away but instead brought to a location for proper disposal. No identification or questions are asked at these sites. Law Enforcement through Vermont join together in this effort to remove unused or unwanted prescription drugs from homes in an attempt to reduce the abuse or misuse of prescribed medicines. Many citizens of Vermont have prescription drugs in their homes, but have forgotten about them or no longer have a need to use them. The public is encouraged to inventory their medicine cabinets or other locations where medicines are kept and properly dispose of those that are not being used.

In 2012, Vermont law enforcement hosted 2 separate Drug Take Back Days that yielded 3405 pounds of prescription drugs. During the last Drug Take Back Day, in April 2013, 2393 pounds were collected.

Drug Take Back Day is a law enforcement effort to assist with the proper disposal of medicines. Pills should not be flushed or thrown away but instead brought to a location for proper disposal. Law Enforcement through Vermont joined together in this effort to remove unused or unwanted prescription drugs from homes in an attempt to reduce the abuse or misuse of prescribed medicines.

This most recent Drug Take Back Day collected 3429.5 pounds of pills. This amount exceeded the 2393 pounds of pills collected in April 2013, totaling 5,822.5 pounds of unwanted or unused pills in 2013.

Many citizens of Vermont have prescription drugs in their homes, but have forgotten about them or no longer have a need to use them. The public is encouraged to inventory their medicine cabinets or other locations where medicines are kept and properly dispose of those that are not being used.
