Classification

I'm a bit curious why death announcements are classified as current news, yet births are under announcements.  The intent of the posts is the same - someone has arrived or departed. This struck me, as I frequent the current news section vs. announcements and it is unbalanced to always see the sadness of death in our community without the balance of joy of from new babies.

Not suggesting things need to change.....just curious to me,

As a native Vermonter, when I get the hard copy newspaper, I and many others always look for the obituaries first and to the best of my knowledge this is true with many old time Vermonters.  Thus, vtgrandpa will continue to post the obituaries under current events.

I think, too, that many people would like to go pay their respects and having the obits under Current Events makes it more likely that people will read it  promptly.

I never actually thought about it before now--but I don't really view the death of someone as an announcement as I would a birth or marriage. It's simply something that one needs to know and NOT a happy occasion. So I guess that does fall in line with current events. If you miss a funeral, you can't go visit a grave site in a couple of weeks and have the same impact. There is an important closure step in the grieving process that happens at these events. At least, I believe so.  I have regrets for past services I didn't attend for one reason or other and it's years later. . .
