Milton - Charles Andrew Hakey, 85, died peacefully late Friday evening, July 11, 2014 at his home, with his loving family by his side. The family felt that he was blessed to be reunited with his wife of 64 years, Doris, who predeceased him in February. Charlie was born on November 2, 1928 in Swanton the son of Nelson and Dorothea (Reynolds) Hakey. On June 11, 1949, he married Doris Bean at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mallets Bay. Early in their marriage, Charlie pitched for a semi-pro ball team playing throughout Vermont, New York, and Quebec. He worked for the railroad and then began working at IBM in Essex Junction in 1957. Charlie and his family resided in Malletts Bay until 1965 when they moved to Milton. He retired from IBM in 1987 as a Senior Facilities Technician, following 30 years of service. He and his wife Doris loved traveling together and touring the countryside. They also loved spending countless hours attending family, sports, and school events of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Charlie was a man of many talents from building homes to coaching Little League teams to woodworking to cooking-- his beans and fudge were family favorites. His family (and his pets) meant everything to him and he was the most giving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Charlie is survived by his children and their spouses Mark and Louise Hakey of Fairfax, Christine and William Gorman of Milton, Joyce Hakey and Norm Stinehour of Fairfax; daughter-in-law Johanne Hakey of Estero, Fla.; grandchildren and their spouses Michael Hakey, Holly and Earl Magoon, Maureen Hakey, Patrick Hakey, Kevin and Heather Gorman, Scott Gorman, Jeremy and Genevieve Hunnewell, and Elizabeth Hakey; great-grandchildren, Brett, Thomas, Jake, Meghan, Riley, Taylor, Colin, Emma, and Elise; brother-in-law, Harvey Amilhat; sister-in-law, Bernice Hakey; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Doris, Charlie was predeceased by his son Paul, in 2003, his parents, brothers John and Frank Hakey, sisters Anna Maskell and Eileen Amilhat, and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5-7pm in the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Malletts Bay with burial following in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
