Please keep Deacon Gabe Gagne and his wife Anna, along with our dear friend Father Leonidas Laroche in your thoughts and prayers. They had a devastating fire at their home today, and I think lost everything.

ST. ALBANS –  A Wednesday afternoon fire in St. Albans left the three residents of a Maquam Shore Road home without a place to stay, the Vermont and New Hampshire Upper Valley Red Cross said in a statement.

Volunteers with the Red Cross provided the three adult residents with financial aid for food and clothing and helped them meet their other emergency needs, Red Cross spokesman Doug Bishop wrote in the statement.

The fire appears to have destroyed the home, Bishop wrote. Friends of the residents will be putting them up.

A late afternoon fire has destroyed a Maquam Shore Road home in St. Albans. The blaze has displaced the home’s three adult residents. Video by Greg Ramsedell.

A photographer on the scene said two older people escaped the fire, and the third was away when the fire happened. One of the residents told the photographer she heard an explosion in the garage.

Bishop wrote that the Red Cross provided food and hydration to the three responding fire departments — St. Albans Town, St. Albans City and Swanton — and to the police and other emergency workers on scene.

The Red Cross had no information on the cause of the fire.
