BETTY L. CROSS - MILTON - Betty L. Cross, 71, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Monday morning, June 22, 2015, at her home in Milton. Betty was born June 2, 1944, in St. Albans, the daughter of the late Alson and Emily Sweeney Underwood. On Feb. 18, 1966, she married the love of her life, Walter "Bubby" Cross, in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Betty graduated from Milton High School. She started work at the Vermont Toy Factory in Essex Center, the Petco Gas Station on Riverside Avenue in Burlington, and the Vermont Food and Science Lab in Essex Junction. From there, Betty worked for a number of years in the Environmental Services Department at Fletcher Allen Health Care, until her retirement in late 2014. Betty was committed to her community and served on Milton Rescue Squad for 17 years. Affectionately known as Aunt Betty to her rescue family, she was recognized as Rescue Member of the Year in 2008, actively participated in weekly trainings, covered a number of weekday shifts, even after working all night, for most of her career at Rescue. She will be dearly missed by all. Betty is survived by her husband, Bubby of Milton; their children, Bruce Cross of Milton, and Beth Farnsworth and husband, Eli, of Colchester; her "little man," Austin; brothers and sisters, Frederick Underwood (Nancy) of Merrimac, Mass., Nancy Turner (Don Sr.) of Milton, Sally Ryan (Billy) of Georgia, Judy Noel (Ron) of Milton, Sheila Bearor (Don) of South Burlington, Pam Duffy (Jim) of North Carolina, and Steve Underwood (Pat) of Milton; in-laws, Shirley Parrott (Francis) of Milton, Wanda Tinker (Roy) of Milton, and John Cross (Eleanor) of Fletcher; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. The most important thing to Betty was her family and the events that they enjoyed doing together. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church in Milton, with Fr. John Feltz as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7, in Milton, with vigil prayers offered by Fr.
