Port Henry, N.Y. - Charles E. Parah, 87, of Port Henry died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach peacefully surrounded by members of his family.

He was born in St. Albans on December 23, 1929 , the son of the late Doris and Charles Parah.

Charles had quit high school when his father was hurt to take care of the family. He served in the army in 1949 for two years, returned to high school and graduated in 1953, graduated from Johnson State College in 1959 with Bachelor of Science Degree in education. He taught in Postdam, NY for 2 years, moved to Port Henry in 1961, taught at Port Henry High School until it's closing in 1967 and taught American History at Moriah Central School until his retirement. He enjoyed his retirement living in So. Carolina during the winter.

He married the late Jane Free on August 27, 1957 at Christ the King church in Burlington.

He married Margaret Rende on October of 2008 at St. Patrick's church, Port Henry.

He was a very loving husband and father, was very active in the church and had a strong devotion to Blessed Mother and St. Theresa. He loved to teach and touched the hearts of many students. He had a great love of music and the newest technology.

He is survived by his wife Margaret of Port Henry, four children, Dr. Martha Parah and her husband Fred Brandt of CO., Rebecca Hodgeman and her husband Duane of St. George, Vt, Michael Parah of NC, Matthew Parah and his wife Donna of LA, 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, a brother Maurice Parah and his wife Judy of Highgate, Bette Fickert of Maryland, Armand Parah and his wife Linda of Va. , Nancy Green and her husband Richard of St. Albans, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Jane Parah, his brothers Lyle and Wayne Parah and a brother-in-law Donald Fickert, MD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 6, 2017, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Port Henry, N.Y.
