Winter Weather Advisory - Don't Think It Will Effect Fairfax

Winter weather advisory in effect until 7 pm est Friday.

The NWS in burlington has issued a winter weather advisory for the champlain valley and south central vermont, which is in effect until 7 pm est Friday.

Heavy rainfall occurring this morning will gradually mix with and change to periods of heavy wet snow through the early to mid afternoon hours. Snow will accumulate first at higher elevations, and gradually develop at the lower elevations of the champlain valley and connecticut river valley. Snow accumulations will range from 1 to 4 inches by midnight, with the higher amounts above 700 feet in elevation. As the changeover to snow occurs, water from earlier rain will likely begin to freeze on roadways, creating a hazardous driving condition, especially at higher elevations. In addition, snowfall rates will be heavy at times, resulting in very low visibility, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

Periods of snow showers will continue late tonight into friday, with some light additional snow accumulation possible.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will likely lead to, or result in slippery roads and limited visibilities. Use caution while driving.
